Frome Renewable Energy Co-op is planning its first solar powered projects and will be inviting the local community to invest.
The potential projects include putting solar panels on Frome Medical Practice, Frome Football Club and a local school.
“With over 1,000 community energy projects in the South West alone, community energy is rapidly growing in popularity,” explained co-director Tim Cutting. “By enabling local people to invest in clean local energy production it’s a win-win situation. These projects help to cut emissions, cut energy costs and provide a better return on investment, at around 7%, than most banks.”
Investors in the Frome projects will also be supporting a local community fund to enable other low carbon projects in and around the town.
FRECo will be talking about community energy and collecting expressions of interest at One Planet Sunday at the Cheese and Grain on 14th September. For further information contact: anna@freco.org or call 01373 229564.
