Fourteen year old Amy Lugg has been awarded the highest award a Scout can get: the Chief Scout’s Gold Award.
Amy has worked really hard to earn this accolade and needed to obtain eight individual ‘Challenge Awards’ including demonstrating creativity, global awareness, fitness, a commitment to her community and outdoor challenges such as camping and navigating.
The final piece of the jigsaw was earned during October half term when Amy, together with five other Scouts who were all aged just 13 at that point, went on an expedition to Lyme Regis.
The team planned all aspects including routes, public transport and accommodation, alongside carrying out a project. In addition, they raised £290 through cake sales and busking to finance the expedition.
Amy will now become a Young Leader helping out with the Mells Cub pack at their weekly meetings with the intention of joining Frome Explorer Scouts.
Nicola Botterill, Headmistress at Bruton School for Girls, where Amy goes to school, said, “We are so thrilled for Amy – the achievement of being the first Scout in her Troop to obtain a Gold Award, is a great reflection on her commitment and dedication. Well done Amy!”
