Frome Community Lottery has awarded a number of grants to local organisations, totalling almost £2,000.
Grants have been awarded to Fair Frome, the Merlin Theatre, the Memorial Theatre, and Frome Festival.
The organisation reports, “At this time of year, Frome Community Lottery gives out grants to local organisations, usually in a grant evening. However, this year grant cheques to the successful organisations have been handed out in a socially-distanced way by trustees meeting representatives of the organisation individually.
“Cheques, totalling about £2,000, were presented to Fair Frome for PPE equipment, the Merlin Theatre for refurbishment of the foyer, the Memorial Theatre for a new booking website and to the Frome Festival to assist with the costs of staging an exhibition on the history of the festival, to be held in Rook Lane Chapel.
“Co-incidentally, the Frome Festival and the Frome Community Lottery were both founded in the same year and both celebrated their 20th birthday last year.
“The Community Lottery was planning a celebration to involve local organisations and lottery players in March 2020. This obviously had to be postponed but we are still planning to get together to recognise the contribution of the Lottery to Frome, later this year.
“For over 20 years the Community Lottery has been pleased to be able to support local organisations to develop community facilities in Frome.
“Grant funding comes entirely from the proceeds of the Frome Lottery. Participants spend £1 a week with the chance of winning cash prizes of up to £25,000. Of this 50% is available to support community groups in the Frome area.
“In the last year over one hundred people in Frome have won prizes. Joining forms are available on the trust’s website – www. fromecommunitytrust.btck. co.uk or by calling Sue Worringham, Chair of the Lottery on 01373 462431.”
Sue adds, “The trustees of the Lottery are always impressed by the range of activities going on in Frome and by the wide range of organisations working to improve facilities for the people of Frome and the villages around.
“It would be great if we were able to give grants to even more local organisations. They all do such excellent work towards making Frome such a good place to live. This will only be possible if more local people join the Lottery, so please consider joining, knowing that half of what you pay weekly comes directly back to Frome groups. You might even win some prizes!”
