FROME Community College has achieved its best ever A-level results in the national performance tables, published by the Department for Education last week.
Assistant headteacher John Robson said the school is delighted with the news. “This week’s release of the secondary school exam results tables confirms Frome College’s improvements at Post 16 with our best ever results,” he said.
“Students recorded an average of 714 points per student and an average of 213 points per entry. This success shows students from Frome can outperform those from many other parts of the country and once again many students gained entry into the most prestigious universities including Oxford & Cambridge and a wide range of Russell Group universities.
“Post 16 particularly excelled in vocational Level 3 BTEC results which were rated within the top 10% nationally and provided a springboard for many students to go on to exciting and competitive employment opportunities.
“The arrival of Gavin Ball the new principal, alongside Post 16s’ move into the new purpose-built Frome Futures building has added extra momentum to our on-going improvement strategy and we look forward to yet again announcing our best ever results in August 2013.”
In the GCSE performance tables, published alongside the A-Level tables, 47% of GCSE pupils at Frome Community College pupils achieved 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE, the same as the previous year. This compares to a national average of 59.4% and a Somerset county average of 56.5%.
