Sat. 9th March. Evo-Stik Southern Prem. Staines Town 1 Frome 0
FOLLOWING a 1-0 defeat to bottom of the table Staines Town, Frome Town FC address rumours of the resignation of manager Danny Greaves.
The club report, “Frome Town suffered a humiliating defeat at league basement side Staines Town in the battle between the bottom two clubs. Despite dominating possession and chances, they were unable to create the breakthrough and the game ended 1-0, probably condemning Frome to division one football next season.
“Frome started by far the better side and created several clear chances by a combination of good goalkeeping, lucky deflections and a goal line clearance without their own defence being troubled until around the half hour mark, when Brown was called on to make a smart save at point blank range. Shortly afterwards, a mishit free kick landed at the feet of Staines’ no 9 on his debut, who made no mistake.
“You hoped that the second half would see an improved performance, but there was little of note. Every chance that Frome managed to create was saved or off target and in the cloud light of day, you cannot expect to miss so many clear opportunities and get anything from the game.
“Frome is faced with the prospect of having to win at least 6 of their last 9 games to survive and it will need a significant improvement over today’s performance for that to happen.”
In response to rumours on social media following the match, of the resignation of manager Danny Greaves, the club released the following statement, “After reviewing social media rumours and reports following our match on Saturday, the club would like to clarify that Danny Greaves remains the manager of Frome Town F.C. retaining the full support of our board of directors.
“As you can imagine, the whole club remains disappointed in regards to the last few weeks, given the recent on-field results. These circumstances have meant that the club will be taking further steps to plan beyond the end of this season, regardless of our final league position. Danny Greaves remains an integral part of these plans, as we continue to develop a new culture within the playing staff, along with the introduction of the new development team.
“For clarity, the club has not accepted or received any formal resignations. Also, to be clear, the club has not sought out or spoken to any managers or coaches that are attached to other clubs or free agents.
“The club would like to also state that we would not typically comment on social media-based rumours. We are committed to supporting our manager when these rumours can directly effect the ability for Danny to perform his role, or cause disruption to our playing squad at a critical point of the season.
“We hope our fans and partners also remain committed to supporting the club through this tricky part of the season, whilst continuing to show their support for Danny and the team.”
