TINY Hearts is a new initiative at The Good Heart in Palmer Street, exclusively for under-fives and their grown-ups. Open from 9am – 11am every weekday, it offers a warm and friendly space, complete with tea and biscuits, children’s toys and books. There’s no need to book and it’s completely free of charge.
Over 100 parents have dropped into Tiny Hearts since the initiative began in early January. “It’s exactly the kind of space that new mums need – comforting, supporting and so welcoming. I’m so glad I found it,” said one of them.
Other comments include: “Coming here gives me a reason to leave the house each morning and has made such a difference to my mental health”; “Our children love the toys and the space,” and “Tiny Hearts is such a wonderful warm space and it is much needed. Every time I come it has been full. Thank you so much for the friendly kind team who run this place.”
Everyone is enormously supportive to each other, and one mother commented that it’s the only time in the day that she gets to speak with another adult.
Tiny Hearts was set up as part of Frome’s Warm Spaces initiative and due to demand, will continue until the end of April. The Good Heart is grateful to all the funders who’ve come together to make this possible, including Frome Town Council, Somerset Community Foundation, Frome Town Rotary, the Inner Wheel, The Rotary Club of Frome and Frome Lions Club. There have also been generous donations from parents and members of the general public.
The Good Heart continues to be open from 12 – 7pm Tuesday – Sunday and from 12 – 3pm on Mondays for anyone who needs to come in from the cold. Hot drinks are offered for free, and home-cooked food is provided by Tibetan Memories at lunchtimes and from 5 – 7pm (except for Sundays) with tea and delicious gluten-free cake from 3 – 5pm in the afternoons.
