As a charity that works with Disabled People’s Organisations in their fight for equality, ADD International drew from their own experience to talk about how businesses can increase their inclusively and awareness at this month’s Frome Business Breakfast.
While those who identify as having a disability still face challenges when looking for work, with their talent and potential often overlooked during the hiring process, ADD explained how businesses with a positive understanding of inclusion have benefited from a more diverse workforce.
Attendees of the breakfast discussed different ways of increasing awareness of inclusive hiring. Working in groups, local business owners outlined both benefits and potential challenges, highlighting that if employers further developed their understanding of disability they would avoid common misconceptions and simultaneously improve upon workplace accessibility and social tolerance.
Clare McKeown, the Director of Fundraising and Partnerships at ADD International, said, “It was an honour to host the Business Breakfast at the Old Church School, where ADD International is now based. It was great to work with the council and meet local businesses in a friendly and engaging environment and we look forward to furthering links with them all.”
Jointly organised by Frome and District Chamber of Commerce and Frome Town Council, the Frome Business Breakfast sessions take place every month. With themes ranging from business strategy, cyber security, and economic development, they have become increasingly popular with local businesses and are attracting sell out audiences at each event.
The next breakfast event takes place on Friday 4th November at The Standerwick Suite and features a keynote speech by MP David Warburton on current government policy towards business and how government can better encourage business growth in the South West. The cost including a full English breakfast with tea and coffee is £10.
