EVERYONE is invited to join in with a South African music and food journey, as part of the festival.
Organisers say, “Music and food form the foundation of all cultures. South Africa has had a unique musical journey, that has straddled the apartheid era. From township jazz to contemporary South African pop – the music itself has told a moving story of the country’s struggles and victories.
“On Sunday 7th July, at 2.30pm at the Frome Football Club, the ‘African Shuffle and Chomp’ show will be celebrating some of the most famous and powerful music to come from the southern tip of Africa. Uplifting and heartfelt world, folk, rock and pop music from the latest 50 years; each with a little story of their own, performed by some of the best musicians in Frome.
“Where does the ‘shuffle’ come from?
“The iconic image of Nelson Mandela (or ‘Madiba’ as we called him) dancing, wearing a colourful shirt, will be part of our memory of the great man, forever. This dance we call the ‘Madiba Shuffle’
“And the ‘chomp’? A multi-course, tapas-style meal giving you a myriad of tastes from South Africa’s delicious food.
“Frome Festival event 714 will feature music with a live band, South African cuisine, the bar will have South African beer, cider and wine on sale and a South African slang dictionary will be provided!”
The event will take place at Frome Football Club, Blindman Brewery Stadium, Berkley Road, Frome, BA11 2EH. A portion of the proceeds will go to Fair Frome. https://shuffleand chomp.com/tickets/
