THE closure of three Frome banks is a rumbling concern among the community, with questions being asked in the town about where residents will go for face-to-face banking support when the banks have gone.
NatWest and HSBC have already closed, with Barclays following by the end of the year. A group of concerned people, spearheaded by Jean Boulton and Sam Evans, are making progress in exploring options to compensate for the exit of the three high street banks from Frome.
Jean Boulton said, “We are in the process of setting up a community interest company, Prosper Frome, to act as a vehicle to allow us to explore establishing an informal finance hub. We are also looking at whether a post office can be reinstated in the centre of Frome. This will support those who cannot easily use internet banking or travel to other towns, as well as supporting our local businesses.”
To encourage people to share and explore ideas, there is a meeting on Wednesday 5th July at 6pm to 7.30pm, all are welcome to attend. For more information about the event and its location, contact Jean Boulton via info@edventurefrome.org.
