A LOCAL writer has published a book about humorous events they have experienced in Frome.
The book of anecdotes, titled ‘Frome Frolics’, has been written by Pat Tayler, who has also illustrated the book with cartoons and drawings.
Pat said, “This is a light-hearted book about events that have happened to me in Frome or my travels to and from Frome. They are all true and are in date order.
“I moved to Frome in 2004 and made a note of events that happened. Over the years the names of some of the shops, buildings, a society and even a local newspaper have changed. But I have kept the name used at the time.
“The idea of a book started when I was working backstage at the Memorial Theatre in 2005 finding props and had to look for a false leg for one of the ugly sisters in Cinderella.
“Whilst my life has revolved round drawing, I also enjoy writing. I used to write odes about humorous things at school for a laugh. I called them odes and was nicknamed Pode – I am still called that today by family and friends.”
Proceeds from the book will be donated to the local buildings and societies mentioned in the anecdotes, which include Frome Memorial Theatre, Cheese & Grain, British Heart Foundation (Frome), Oxfam (Frome), Frome Medical Practice, Christchurch Parish Hall, Frome Society for Local Study, Frome Art Society, Frome Musical Theatre Company and Frome Festival.
“I decided early on that any profits after printing costs should go to the public buildings where the events took place and the societies who organised the occasions where the events took place,” explained Pat. “Without them, there wouldn’t have been any anecdotes.”
A book launch will be held at the Cheese & Grain on Thursday 24th October at 7.30pm, where Pat will be available to answer any questions about the book.
Following the launch, the ‘Frome Frolics’ will go on sale at Ellenbray, Frome Wholefoods, Absolutely Fabulous Costume Hire, Rye Bakery, Frome Museum, and Uptown Hairdresser. It will also be available at the Discover Frome information point at Black Swan Arts.
