A LOCAL internationally-acclaimed artist has found a new use for unwanted ‘For Sale’ signs from a local estate agent.
A spokesperson for local estate agent, Cooper and Tanner explains, “Frome is known for being a hub of creative talent, and one of the town’s prominent artists is Paris, an internationally-acclaimed artist whose iconic work has been showcased at the London Olympics and commissioned by Coldplay for their international tours.
“For some years, Paris has been keen to create a durable and lightweight exhibition, with a focus on repurposing materials. The aim has also been to create a visual feast for the viewer, that can be easily taken on tour across the UK and internationally. The resulting body of work successfully echoes protest art throughout the ages, whilst also referencing the output of many of the young artists in New York’s Lower East Side in the 1970s and 80s. By using a range of local materials alongside wood, tape, photocopies, collage, paint and varnish, the spectrum of pieces in this exhibition is a representation of the long traditions of folk art and symbolic carnivals, with an autobiographical emphasis.
“So, what is the connection with Cooper and Tanner? The answer is that Paris found the perfect materials for this project in the form of our retired For Sale boards. These have already served one purpose, to advertise our clients’ homes and now they have a second lease of life, repurposed and transformed into exceptional works of art.
“Paris’ incredible exhibition, called Ultra-Aesthetics, is open until 9th June with free entry, at the Gallery at the Station, BA11 1RE in Frome and is an event not to be missed.”
