Jim Whitty’s show, FLUX, at the Black Swan Arts Gallery on Bridge Street on Saturday 22nd November is showcasing his extraordinary and innovative paintings.
To create his remarkable pieces, Jim repeatedly re-paints over the large canvases, with each new stage being a finished artwork in it own right. These ‘in-between’ stages are now buried under layers of other paintings. These are not lost as each picture has been recorded and filmed.
The show is generating thought-provoking discussions about the point at which the artist finishes and the viewer takes over responsibility for deciding what the painting means.
The artist’s talk, titled ‘When is the Painting Finished’ is at 4.00pm on Saturday 22nd November and will be hosted by Jim Whitty and the curator of the show Mark Karasick. No booking is required, so turn up for what promises to be a fascinating and lively debate.
The FLUX Exhibition by Jim Whitty is open from 9.30am – 5.00pm Monday – Saturday at Black Swan Arts, 2 Bridge Street, Frome. www.black swan.org.uk.
