Firmly established as one of the folk-scene’s busiest and most respected duos, the husband and wife team will play at The Cheese & Grain in Frome on Friday 4th March.
Nominated for this year’s BBC Folk Award for Best Duo, having previously won in 2013, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman head out on tour next month for a string of gigs in support of their new mini-album, entitled ‘Saved For A Rainy Day.’
They said, “Over the years there have been several cover songs we have performed live and never got round to recording, along with a couple of original songs that didn’t fit with our previous full releases.
“These have often been requested on CD and subsequently ‘Saved For A Rainy Day’ has become a limited edition of rarities. It will only be available at our live gigs.”
Two of the British folk scenes most accomplished performers, Kathryn and Sean have graced stages the world over in a number of guises, however, the intimacy and strength of passion shown as a duo, combined with an eclectic repertoire, ensures a rare treat for any listener.
Twin daughters and a folk-rock whirlwind forced Kathryn Roberts (vocals/ piano/woodwind), and Sean Lakeman (guitar), to sideline their popular duo performances in the mid noughties.
After almost a decade, 2012 saw a spectacular return in conjunction with their critically acclaimed album ‘Hidden People.’ Awards and much praise followed and the couple re-established themselves as one of the top British folk duos.
With a story that includes music making with the likes of Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, Levellers, Kate Rusby and Show of Hands, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman have consolidated themselves as pillars of modern British folk.
