Beckington First School PSA’s popular scarecrow trail will return this October half-term.
Last year’s Roald Dahl-themed scarecrow trail raised over £800 for the charity and saw families coming together to identify 28 characters from famous Dahl stories. This year’s theme is “classic children’s stories” from fairy tales to Peter Pan, from Alice in Wonderland to Paddington Bear.
PSA chairperson, Emily Denne said, “We are incredibly happy that our scarecrow trail will return for its second year. Last year’s trail had a real family feel, and raised a lot of money for the school. This year has a completely new theme, but we think it will appeal to everyone – from toddlers to great-grandparents, adults and children alike should find some of their favourite stories depicted as scarecrows.”
The trail will run across the October half-term, launching on the 21st October and finishing on the 29th. Trail sheets cost just £3, making it wonderful value, with the route taking you past a coffee shop, two pubs and a children’s playground. Everyone who successfully identifies all the stories, will be entered into a draw. First prize will receive a £20 book token and second prize will get a £10 token.
A special launch event will be held in the school hall on Saturday 21st October from 10am to 12noon. Everyone is warmly invited to buy their trail sheet, and then return to enjoy a home-made cake and hot drink. The PSA will also be selling second-hand children’s books at bargain prices in celebration of this year’s theme.
Throughout the rest of the week, trail sheets will be available from Mes Amis in the centre of Beckington.
Emily continued, “We are pleased to be able to report that this year’s trail will be even bigger than last year’s and we hope that the public will support us again. We will also be resurrecting our “#scarecrowselfie” competition – entrants are invited to take a selfie with a scarecrow and publish them on our Facebook page (Beckington PSA scarecrow trail). The most ‘liked’ photograph will win a prize!”
