Following their hugely successful 2017 production of ‘The Vicar of Dibley’, Project Play are returingn with yet another side-splitting classic, ‘‘Allo ‘Allo’.
The show is currently being performed at the Merlin Theatre until this Saturday, 27th April.
Based on the hugely successful British television series that ran for seven seasons, this uproarious comedy embraces the adventures of the hapless cafe owner Rene, in occupied France. Featuring all of your favourite TV characters including Rene’s tone-deaf wife Edith, Major-General von Klinkerhoffen and the Gestapo officer Herr Flick.
He and his wife have stashed a priceless portrait stolen by the Nazis in a sausage in their cellar, where two British airmen are also hiding until the Resistance can repatriate them. Communications with London using the wireless that is disguised as a cockatoo add to the many embarrassments this intrepid proprietor endures in the company of his patrons. News that the Fuhrer is scheduled to visit the town inspires tricksters disguised as Hitler to frequent the cafe. Meanwhile Rene summons all the wit he can muster to save his cafe and his life.
The show features a very special message from the original BBC TV Series’ “Yvette”, in the form of Vicki Michelle.
This is a special opportunity to step back 70 years and join the characters in Nouvion, in occupied France. We all know and love the hit sitcom, but now you can see the story come to life on Frome’s very own Merlin stage. Last year it was The Vicar of Dibley and this year the team will bring the ‘Allo ‘Allo gang back together – Rene, Edith, Yvette and the rest – right in front of your eyes.
