Residents and visitors are being encouraged to swap four wheels for two thanks to the expanding bike hire scheme offered by Frome Community Bike Project.
The community initiative provides a range of affordable cycling options, including electric bikes, on-street hire bikes and a cargo bike, making it easier for people to get around town, run errands and explore the local area sustainably.
The scheme includes a fleet of e-bikes available for short- and long-term hire, allowing riders to tackle Frome’s hills with ease. For quick journeys around town, five on-street hire bikes can be booked via a smartphone app and collected from locations opposite Frome Station and outside Frome Library.
A community cargo bike is also available, giving residents the opportunity to carry shopping, transport children or move larger items without relying on a car.

Frome Community Bike Project says the scheme is designed to make cycling more accessible while helping reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality and support healthier lifestyles.
Director Rosie Downes said, “Not everyone is ready to buy a bike and many people are curious about trying an e-bike or cargo bike before making a commitment. Our hire scheme gives residents and visitors a simple, affordable way to experience the benefits of cycling and discover just how practical it can be for everyday journeys.”
The organisation reinvests income from its services into community projects that support cycling and active travel across Frome and profits go to local charity Frome’s Missing Links, who are extending traffic-free routes around Frome.
