Boom time for UK tourism is good news for Frome

The latest data from the Office for National Statistics shows that more overseas visitors came to the UK last year than ever before, and Frome-based holiday lettings company, Somerlet, is seeing evidence of this upward trend in Somerset.

In 2016 there were a record 37.3million inbound visits to the UK, with a strong increase in visitors from North America, Canada and the US.  This increase is arguably prompted by the weaker pound.

Rowena Collins, director of Somerlet, manages holiday homes in the Somerset region.  She said, “Over the last year we have welcomed many visitors from Canada, the US and other countries like Australia, Hong Kong and the UAE.  Tourists love walking cobbled streets and sleeping under roofs with 300-plus years of history.  In fact, in some cases the properties are older than the countries they are visiting from!
