A LOCAL actor will be holding two special performances to mark April Fools’ Day next month.
Simon Blakeman, a local actor who says he is honoured to call himself a ‘Fool,’ is inviting Frome to come along on April Fools’ Day to celebrate all things foolish. He is playing host to a coming together of artists from all over the region.
This mini-festival of the Fool takes place in two phases: the first, ‘The Quest for the Red Herring’, is the daytime event from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, and will be followed by ‘The Night of the Fool’ from 7pm.
The Quest for the Red Herring follows foolish lad, Simple Simon, as he is sent twisting, turning, whirling and skedaddling in all directions in his quest for a certain elusive fish.
Children will get the chance to make a fool or a fish before the show, and the performance is interactive with children (and a few very lucky adults) being invited up to join in the quest as various crazy characters.
The evening phase, ‘The Night of the Fool’ is a more adult taste of the Fool in the form of theatre, music, poetry and an art exhibition at 7pm until 10.30pm, with exclusive solo performances by seven fools.
Both events will take place at the Steiner Academy on Park Road, on Saturday 1st April. For more information or to book tickets go to www.theatrespace.co.uk or call 07772 361929.
