PLAYING a rearranged match due to the snow Frome 2s, already clear at the top of the league, were looking forward to playing their last match of the season. With two birthday girls on the pitch, the emphasis was very much on enjoying the game.
The game took off at a great pace which suited Frome and they very quickly got the upper hand with a quick goal from Kate O’Connor, who took a dive towards a great cross from Betty Restorick and popped it in the net.
Corsham were quick to respond and from a surprise break they levelled the score with a strong hit at the top of the D. This only spurred Frome on with Molly Pascoe, another up and coming young player, using her speed to get the ball down the right, past the Corsham defence and through to Juliet Bath who had time to take a shot. Pascoe continued on into the D and was ideally placed to pick up the rebound off the keeper and catching her off balance slapped it past her into the goal.
Frome continued to dominate the attacking play with some great processional play through Hayley Parker, Zoe Callum and Lucy Townsend. One such attack found Holly Simpson pick up the ball just outside the D and drive towards goal. Keeping good ball control she worked it around a number of players before finding herself in front of the keeper and skilfully slotted it past her.
Frome went in at half time 3 – 1 in front. Comfortable with the way things were running, no changes were made to the order of play as Frome took to the pitch for the second half. Frome continued to win short corners against Corsham but their defensive play kept Frome at bay.
However, a change of tactic was made and Frome opted to play the ball at the keeper to get in behind the defensive box, with players running into the space created. Such a ball by Juliet Bath found injector Teresa Taylor-Wolff ideally placed in front of the keeper, so was able to place the ball past the keeper. Finally having found where the space was, Frome repeated the process with a similar strike by Zoe Callum taking a straight strike and once again Taylor-Wolff picked up the rebound and coolly slotted it into the corner to score two goals on her birthday and join her daughter on the team sheet.
Frome finished the match 5 – 1 thanks to some great defensive work by Ali Seward, Verity Baker, Sarah Daniels, Emily Oakley and Jo Shailes, together with the fantastic team effort by everyone on the pitch in the heat and they were very satisfied in how the game was played.
Frome 2s would like to take this opportunity to thank their umpires and pitch-side supporters for their contribution to their season. They came out in all weathers to support them on their eventful, although successful journey. Frome 2s have now won the Wessex Division league 2 title with 7 clear points over their nearest arrival and are looking forward to the challenges promotion will bring next season.
