Oli Worts is the Champion Golfer at Orchardleigh Golf Club for 2016, following his ‘flawless’ performance in this month’s championship competition.
The scratch golfer played two flawless rounds of par golf and his score of 144 was eight shots ahead of Simon Curtis (off 7) in second place.
Simon had a stunning weekend scoring net 70 on the Saturday and net 68 on the Sunday winning both the Caxton Bowl (best Sunday net) and the Barrlefield Cup (best overall net). His combined score of 138 beat James Palmer by one point, and Neil Dicks by two.
The Harman Salver for best net on Saturday was won by Michael Rokitowski with 66, but best round of the weekend went to Phil Brocks with a net 64 – eight under his handicap.
Following the prize giving, Oli Worts thanked the Green Keepers for presenting the course so superbly – Dave Roberts and his team have worked wonders and the wet conditions of the winter seem a long time ago now.
The viewing platform behind the 18th green was full on both days as players completed their rounds.
With an entry of 100 players on each day, this was seen as one of the more memorable championships in recent years.
This weekend sees the Ladies Championship, with the Seniors following on the Monday and Wednesday.
Champion – Oli Worts 144; Runner Up – Simon Curtis 152; Net Winner – Simon Curtis 138; Runner Up – James Palmer 139.
