A fundraising event featuring a special performance by the Warminster Military Wives Choir will take place next month. The event is organised by local charity Purple Elephant, who is calling on the community to help make it a success.
Due to be held at The Silk Mill on Saturday 15th February, local companies are being asked to donate high-quality prize gifts or memorable experiences for the raffle, which will be drawn on the night. To give the evening an extra-special atmosphere, the organising team is looking for the following items: long strings and garlands of warm white lights, white netting and gauze for delicate decoration, LED candles and table decorations.
Purple Elephant’s fundraiser, Carla Maguire, said, “We are already delighted that local party supply company, A Day To Remember X, has offered us 80 beautiful chair covers and bows to make the venue look extra-special on the night. We would also welcome any budding young event photographers who might like to practice their photojournalistic skills by recording the day with pictures for us.”
In the past year alone, the charity has given 130 families access to free holiday activities, delivered specialist one-to-one support through its adult-to-child befriending service, helped a further 12 families with bespoke support, opened a new youth club at The Key Centre and hosted over 3,000 people at the Frome Children’s Festival in the summer.
Service manager and founder, Sue Willis, said, “One of the heartwarming things about working with Purple Elephant is how we feel embraced as part of this special town. Families’ lives can be tough. For example, 87% of service users come from areas of high deprivation, 77% are recipients of either Free School Meals or social benefits and 41% have additional needs or disabilities. But 100% of families’ children deserve the right to play and have fun together, so we are also focused on bringing joy. This event will be uplifting and joyous, and the money raised will help us continue achieving our aim of supporting local families and children facing any kind of disadvantage.”
If you have items to lend or donate, or time and talent to offer in support of Purple Elephant’s work with vulnerable families and children in Frome, or if your company can offer prize-giving support, the Purple Elephant team can be contacted via their website www.purpleelephant.org.uk or emailed directly at carlamaguire@purpleelephant.org.uk.
Anyone wishing to buy tickets to attend the evening fundraiser and hear the choir at The Silk Mill can obtain them via either The Silk Mill or Purple Elephant’s website.
