Frome Musical Theatre Company will be performing the circus musical ‘Barnum’ at the Frome Memorial Theatre from Tuesday 5th – Saturday 9th May.
This production combines traditional musical theatre with the spectacle of the circus to tell a true story of a man who wanted to sell his vision to the world using his charm and ability to ‘humbug’ people into believing in him.
It features a menagerie of artists, jugglers, stilt walkers and clowns, as well as real-life personalities Jenny Lind, the Swedish Nightingale, Tom Thumb the smallest man in the world, Joice Heth, the oldest woman alive and his wife Charity who stood by his side encouraging his success, in a less colourful way! And always aware of when he was ‘humbugging’ her!
Barnum is based on the life of P.T. Barnum and follows the legendary showman’s life as he lit up the world with colour, warmth and the excitement of his imagination and how he finally teamed up with J A Bailey to create Barnum and Bailey’s Circus – the Greatest Show on Earth.
Expect a magnificent feast of colour, splendour, song and dance from the award-winning company who recently performed sell out performances of Beauty & the Beast and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The exuberant score includes well-known musical numbers Come Follow The Band, The Colours of My Life and There Is A Sucker Born Ev’ry Minute.
The principal cast are: PT Barnum – Kevin Withers, Charity Barnum – Joanne Plenty, Jenny Lind – Tabi Cox, Bailey – Mike Perry, Tom Thumb – Ed Henderson, Ringmaster – Abi Holmes, Joice Heth – Daisy Mercedes.
