Hunting Raven Books and Forward Space are hosting an evening with bestselling author and founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society, Gavin Pretor-Pinney.
The hosts report, “Despite being turned down 28 times before finding a publisher, Gavin Pretor-Pinney’s book The Cloudspotter’s Guide was the surprise smash hit of 2006 – making it into the top ten of The Times bestseller list.
“Gavin founded the Cloud Appreciation Society in January 2005 and the society now boasts 46,000 members from 120 different countries. Despite his standing, Gavin has always rejected the title of ‘expert’ – preferring instead to think of himself as someone who is just very interested in clouds. But his knowledge is rich, and his latest book, A Cloud a Day, is both an informative guide to the clouds that grace our skies and a beautiful and timely reminder of the power of taking a moment each day to stop, look skywards, and take in the wonders above our heads.
“Gavin’s TED Talks profile describes him as a ‘longtime advocate of the joys of time ill-spent’ and his talk ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Joy’ has had over a million views. Prior to setting up the Cloud Appreciation Society, Gavin was co-founder of The Idler magazine – which champions the importance of downtime in creative thinking. He lives in Somerton – so we are thrilled to be welcoming him to his fellow constituency town to talk all things cloudy.
“The event will take place on Wednesday 11th September at 7.30pm at The Old Church School (Butts Hill, Frome). Tickets are £5 and include a glass of wine. Books will be available to buy on the night and Gavin will be happy to sign them.” Tickets can be reserved by calling Hunting Raven 01373 473111 or directly online at www.bit.ly/ CloudyFrome
