THE Merlin Theatre hosts three events this week, spoken word, contemporary ballet and live folk music.
On Thursday 16th March at 7.45pm, Merlin Spoken Word presents Poetry Platter. Six stand-up poets perform onstage in the unique bistro-style of the enthralling spoken word evenings as Liv Torc and Chris Redmond from Hip Yak Shack join Poetry Cafe’s Crysse Morrison with Hannah Teasdale, Mark De’Lisser and XJX in a Live Word event with a party atmosphere.
Enjoy platters of tapas and wine while this awesome sextet entertain you with a feast of words – witty, poignant, sometimes provocative, always personal, powerful and profound.
On Sunday 19th March at 3pm, the theatre will show a filmed theatre screening of, The Bolshoi Ballet presents A Contemporary Evening. For one evening, the Bolshoi takes on a bold new challenge in Hans Van Manen’s Frank Bridge’s Variations, Sol León and Paul Lightfoot’s Short Time Together and Alexei Ratmansky’s Russian Seasons.
Then on Wednesday 29th March at 7.45pm, BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winners Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman will perform at the theatre.
Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman have long established themselves as one of the UK folk scene’s most rewardingly enduring partnerships. Their intimacy and strength of passion on stage have won them many fans and an enviable reputation as ‘Songwriters par excellence’ (fRoots).
