THE ladies’ section at Orchardleigh Golf Club have been busy over the past few months as they’ve been competing in the Vincent Cup, the Ping 4BBB, the Val Stringer competition and the Keysell Cup – as well as playing in a variety of club matches.
The club report, “At the end of May the ladies’ section competed in the Vincent Cup which is played over two consecutive Sundays as a qualifying medal competition. On the first Sunday, Sue Sweet came in with the best score on a nett 76 and Sarah Hynds was closely behind with 77.
“On the second day of play Sarah Hynds came in with a nett 74 and was one ahead of Sue Sweet on 75. They both had an aggregate of 151 but Sarah Hynds won the Vincent Cup on count back. Diana Bullock and Anne Regler both came in with 75 on the second round but their first-round games were not good enough to match the winner.
“In early June a good number of the ladies’ section played in the Ping 4BBB with the excellent winning score of 46 stableford points was achieved by the pairing of Ann James and Sue Marshall. The runners-up were Mel Sutherland and Jan Light with 44 pts.
“On Thursday 23rd June the Val Stringer competition was played. The teams of three are drawn to play together with the two best scores to count. There was some fantastic play that day as the winning team made up of the lady captain, Anne Carpenter, vice-captain Loes de Kleuver and Sonia Probert came in with an astounding score of 99 pts. Sonia Probert had the best individual score of 45 pts and other ladies also brought in scores of over 40 pts.
“The Keysell Cup was won by Sue Marshall with 42 pts and Loes de Kleuver was runner-up with 38 pts. Members then played the Macey Cup and the Pudney Pitcher on Thursday 7th July.
