AS the UK sweltered in the heat last week, the mercury in Frome almost reached record-breaking heights!
On Thursday 25th July, the UK recorded its hottest July day, with the temperature reaching 38.1C (100.6F) in Cambridge.
Whilst it wasn’t as hot in Frome, local meteorologist, Michael Cooper, reports that it was one of the hottest July days on record for Frome. He told Frome Times, “We almost reached a Frome record last Thursday, but in Frome in the July of 1992 it was 0.1C warmer! Sorry to disappoint some people!
“The highest daytime temperature recorded in my Stephenson screen from two different thermometers last Thursday 25th July at 3pm was 31.5C. But the record for July 24th 1992 still stands – I recorded an outside temperature of 31.6C.”
