FROME Town Council says it will consider new applicants for the role of Town Crier when the current Town Crier steps down in November although they have no firm plans to replace him.
Mike Bishop is stepping down from his role later this year following 17 years of service to the town and his last official outing as Town Crier will be at this year’s Remembrance Service in November.
The town council says, “Mike has done a great job for the town and we’re sorry he’s decided to hang up his bell. We have no plans to replace him, although I’m sure if members of the community came forward, councillors would consider it.
“We have offered to help Mike establish an exhibition at the town hall reflecting his time as crier. Mike has also been informed that he’ll be awarded the Mayor’s Commendation at our council meeting on 15th November.”
