The Good Gallery is a new venture that was started in November by local charity Positive Action on Cancer (PAC).
It sells a wide range of local artists’ and crafts-people’s work with all sales commission going to the counselling work of the charity.
The gallery is situated at 14, Stony Street and every month the featured artists change. In February, there will be paintings and prints by Mells resident Simon Greaves and sculptures by Patricia Volk from Farleigh Hungerford. Alongside the featured artists, there is an ever-changing range of other items.
This month you could find a perfect and unique Valentine’s gift. With prices starting at just £2 for a tiny stone heart embellished with pheasant feathers, there really is something for every pocket.
If you’re in the mood for making something yourself, book up for one of the Saturday workshops that the gallery is starting to run from next month.
Each workshop will run from 10am to 4pm and costs £40 including all materials and tea/coffee but not lunch.
There are three Saturday classes available: February 13th, 10am to 4pm: Take 5 Stitches with Debbie Cripps
Using five simple canvas work stitches, metallic canvas, textured threads and embellishments, create a sumptuous stitched panel.
First you will learn the stitches, and then you’ll be free to use them randomly on your chosen canvas. Debbie will guide you throughout to ensure colour balance, and once stitched, the gaps between stitches can then be filled with beads and other embellishments.
February 20th, 10am to 4pm: Simply ribbons with Heather Kingsley-Heath. Suitable for beginners and fun for beaders who have experience.
Learn how to work peyote stitch bands and how to add a pattern to the band. You’ll also learn how to add a neat edging and a clasp.
March 5th, 10am to 4pm: Creative Kantha work with Lynn Creighton. Create a small ‘Kantha work’ needlecase. Using small scraps of fine fabric, overlapped and stitched onto a cotton background using running stitch, and embellished with tiny buttons.
