Frome Collegians have won the Dimmock Green KO Cup after beating Pilton United 1-0 in a hard fought game at Shepton Mallet FC on Friday night.
Collegians retained the cup in difficult conditions against a strong Pilton side. A first half goal from Barry Sandquest was the difference in the two sides. Collegians started the game on the back foot with some decent play from Pilton but as the first half went on they managed to come into the game with some stirling runs down the flanks by Theo Sing causing Pilton some problems. Collegians were unlucky to have a goal disallowed for offside but continued to add pressure with Sandquest finishing well.
In the second half, with the conditions starting to affect the players, Collegians had to work hard to secure the victory in front of a large and vocal following who braved the conditions and a special mention must go to the Collegians youth team mascots who cheered and celebrated with the first team at the final whistle.
Collegians chairman, Nigel Daymond said, “I was thrilled to see the team come through a difficult game played in tough conditions and credit goes to Karl Freeman and his team for this achievement, It was great to see a large support in unfavourable conditions.”
