THE Lordship of Orchardleigh, Somerset, is for up sale at £7,000.
The title is being sold by The Manorial Society of Great Britain, which was founded in 1906. The society has a membership of approximately 1,900 lords of the manor and feudal barons, peers and historians.
Purchase of the title brings with it no privileges apart from being able to use the title publically. It can be added to identification documents including passports and bank cards.
Previous holders of the title include the Bishop of Coutances, Geoffrey de Mowbray, who was listed as the Lord of Orchardleigh in the Doomsday Book, which was completed in 1086. The bishop was present with King William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings in October 1066.
By 1939 the Lord of the Manor was Major Arthur Campbell Duckworth.
