Frome charity, The Blue House, has received £1,000 from the Inner Wheel towards it tricentennial fundraising campaign to protect a historic building in the town.
The Blue House is an almshouse charity, providing much-needed, affordable housing for older members of the Frome community. It recently launched a fundraising campaign to raise £500,000 for essential repairs to protect its 300-year-old almshouse in the heart of Frome.
The charity’s trustees Anne Oakes and Jim Dowling received the funds at a recent Frome Lions Open Gardens event, held at The Blue House as part of the Frome Festival.
“The Blue House would like to thank the Inner Wheel for this very generous donation and to extend their thanks also to Frome Lions, the Frome Town Band, and the New Academic Feetwarmers, who performed at the event,” said Chairman Miriam Cheal. “Thanks also to Mogers Drewett Solicitors for their continuing support with fund raising efforts.”
The Blue House does not benefit from any direct government or local authority funding or grants and relies on its own fundraising and the modest affordable charges the residents pay.
