Last year, talented local choreographer Mark Bruce exploded onto the national theatre scene with his critically acclaimed production of Dracula starring Jonathan Goddard.
Touring through autumn 2013 the show attracted glowing reviews from national newspapers and went on to win a prestigious South Bank Sky Arts Award.
Bruce’s company brought Dracula to the Merlin with two sold-out homecoming shows. This autumn they will tour again and kick off proceedings with two performances at the Merlin on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th September.
The Merlin’s director, Claudia Pepler commented, “We’re very excited to welcome the Mark Bruce Company back to the Merlin stage. Dracula is an inspiring show with talented dancers, an incredible set and compelling score. We’re very pleased to have such a high calibre company perform in Frome and booking early is advised following the sell-out shows in 2013!”
Mark Bruce has strong links with Frome and the Merlin Theatre. Not only does he live in the town but his wife – who portrays Mina Murray in Dracula – Eleanor Duval teaches on the Merlin’s Tri.Art Dance Academy classes.
In the production Jonathan Goddard plays the infamous Vampire Count, whose sinister and ruthless ambitions challenge the very fabric of Victorian society. As his victims and opponents rally against him they must face the darkness and savagery within themselves.
Bruce’s company of 10 exceptional dancers bring Bram Stoker’s haunting, erotic tale to life in a heart wrenching and magical dance theatre production.
Mark Bruce Company, Dracula, will be at the Merlin on 26th and 27th September, 7.45pm.
