Frome’s independent toy shop Ellenbray has presented the Frome Children’s Festival with a cheque for £102.50.
The 5p charge for plastic bags came into effect in October last year and Ellenbray has since been collecting the money and donating it to the children’s festival. The Frome Children’s Festival relies on grants and donations in order to ensure that its projects remain free and available to all the children of Frome.
Rachel Griffin co-founder the Frome Children’s Festival said, “Donations such as Ellenbray’s are so important for us. We really want the children’s festival to provide experiences that are open to all children regardless of economic circumstances. Every donation that we receive helps to protect that. Ellenbray is a Frome institution and to have their backing is a great endorsement for us and what we are doing.”
Amy Richmond from Ellenbray originally set up the administration of the carrier bag scheme back in November and there have been two donations to date.
Amy is about to have a career change but the scheme is set to continue.
David Chedgy, a partner at Ellenbray said, “Amy set this up in conjunction with the Children’s Festival and we are delighted that it has been such a success. We are happy to wish Amy well in her new career and we are delighted to be able continue to support the Frome Children’s Festival.”
The children’s festival will be on July 10th and will take over Welsh Mill Park to the Cheese and Grain with their eclectic mix of kids’ activities, crafts, sports and performances and community group activities.
This year the Frome Children’s Festival project received a grant from Frome Town Council but until recently, funding had been precarious and they are keen to hear from anybody wishing to sponsor a performance or an activity or to participate by providing an activity.
