COOPER and Tanner has introduced new recycled plastic stakes for their ‘for sale’ signs, in an effort to reduce their waste/carbon footprint.
The new stakes, replace stakes previously made of wood – and the local estate agency believe that they could be the first agency in the country to start this initiative. The stakes are made from 100% UK-sourced waste plastic, that would normally be sent to landfill or to an incinerator.
Senior managing partner at Cooper and Tanner, Quintyn Howard-Evans said, “These new stakes cost a bit more, but we all have to start making decisions like this to try and do things differently to help the environment. I am not aware of any other agent in the country taking this initiative!
“What’s great about the stakes is that they are reuseable and when they reach the end of their life, we can send them back to be recycled again – they never go to landfill!”
Cooper and Tanner has ordered 140 stakes from Plastecowood, a company based in North Wales that specialises in producing alternative-to-timber products made solely from UK generated waste plastic, that is environmentally sustainable.
“Clearly, this is just a small drop in what is a very large and troubling ocean,” said Quintyn. “However, it is a drop, or a small step that we can take. We are continuing to look for ways to help reduce our waste/carbon footprint. We would love for our ‘for sale’ signs, which are currently made of correx, to be made of a more sustainable material – so would welcome any ideas.”
