FAIR Frome have purchased a bigger van for their Furniture Bank.
“I’m really pleased we have been able to purchase a newer van, as the last one was getting unreliable and quite old,” explains Furniture Bank coordinator Nick McCulloch. “We also had issues with lifting heavy items like washing machines into the back and having to lie fridge-freezers down. The new vehicle is a Luton van with a tail lift, allowing us to supply a larger number of items to referred clients.”
The Furniture Bank accepts referrals from local partners for people on a low income who are struggling to purchase essential items for their homes and can provide anything from single items to more extensive provision of goods depending on availability.
Senior coordinator, Lenka Grimes, added, “Fair Frome aims to support the repair of white goods in the first instance, where possible, using a local business and to recycle items as much as we can, before purchasing.
“The project relies upon the donation of good-quality, clean items that are suitable for smaller properties and can then be collected free of charge.
“We especially need white goods like fridges and washing machines in good working order and cookers if they are electric. Other items we desperately need are sofas (two-seater with fire labels), small chests of drawers, single and double beds with clean mattresses (with fire labels), microwaves, small tables and chairs. Nick can advise if you call or email him.”
Following monetary donations from individuals, community groups and businesses in Frome, chair of the Fair Frome trustees, John Killah, explains that this enabled the team to purchase the new van.
“A huge ‘thank you’ is therefore due to all of our supporters and partners for helping to make this happen. It will make a big difference,” says John.
