A FROME family are preparing to embark on a two-day cycling adventure to raise money for local organisation, Frome’s Missing Links.
Dalma and Paul Luttrell with their children, eight-year-old Tinker and five-year-old Artur, will cycle 75 miles from Frome to Corfe Castle. “Our family and friends think we are ‘bonkers’ doing this challenge with our children,” said Dalma, “which is a huge compliment to me! It means we are doing something extraordinary in people’s eyes, that we can all be proud of.”
The family were inspired to organise the fundraiser for Frome’s Missing Links when a cycling trip was cut short when they came to the end of cycle path, in the middle of a field.
“Frome’s Missing Links is the organisation in charge of the hard work to maintain the existing bicycle paths and raise funds to join the missing links towards Longleat and on the other side towards Radstock,” explained Dalma. “It would make me happy if we could cycle further with the boys on traffic-free cycle paths, all linked together.”
Both former mountain bike champions, cycling has always been a passion for Dalma and Paul, but time spent raising a family and growing Paul’s construction business has seen the pair spend less time on their “iron horses”.
“As the children are getting older we can start doing longer tours like this. It’s time to recharge our batteries again on our bikes with our family,” said Dalma.
“Tinker and Artur are both training physically and mentally in their own way by going to the cycle pump track, swimming, building Lego and eating fruit and vegetables. Artur, bless him, has asked, ‘Mummy. If I get tired could I sit on your bike?’ We are prepared to carry them on our bikes. That’s why we have cargo bikes. But they’re both going to have a speedometer to see how many miles we cycle all together.”
Dalma and Paul’s eldest son Zak will also be joining them along the way, meeting that at their overnight stay on a campsite in Blanford Forum. “Zak will help us in setting up camp. And he will be there to save us in the middle of the night if we don’t make it in time before they close the gates to the campsite!”
The family will set off on their trip on Sunday 6th May at 9.30am from Cycology bike shop, at the Old Courthouse. Dalma said, “You can come and send us off on our bike tour!”
