COOPER and Tanner’s first fine art sale will take place on 10th April at their offices at Standerwick.
The company says there will be a range of styles, artists and mediums on offer, with an emphasis on 19th and 20th century artwork, from idyllic rural scenes to abstract 20th century mixed media.
Included in the sale is a wonderful single owner collection of works by Gustave Cariot. Born in 1872 in Paris, little is known about Cariot’s education, and it is believed that he was a self-taught artist. His paintings are very much in the impressionist style and are becoming increasingly popular.
Other highlights of the sale include a pair of watercolours by the Irish artist Alexander Williams, one of a scene in Donegal and the other of a scene in County Wicklow; a stunning oil on canvas of a still life of flowers by Caroline Illsley Barnett; and a set of etchings of Art Deco dancers by Ernest Tower Rosen.
One of the more unusual lots in the sale is a bronze sculpture by Graham High, titled ‘Threatened Fledgling’, numbered two of five. Standing at just 21cm high, it is a moving piece, as a commentary on the current situation of wildlife in our modern world. High is not only a sculptor but also a painter and poet.
