FROME Town United FC (FTUFC) have renamed the club’s highest award in honour of one of the founding members who died last year.
The Frome Town United Shield, the most prestigious end of season award at the club, has now been renamed the Nigel Daymond Shield, following Nigel’s death last year. Nigel was a key influence with the club and football in the town in general. The club say that renaming the shield will give legacy to Nigel’s name following his years of service to football in Frome.
The club say, “Nigel was formally the Frome Collegians chairman, and when discussions began on bringing three clubs (Frome Collegians Youth, Frome Town Youth and Frome Town Robins) together, Nigel was at the forefront. He was a key figure in forming Frome Town United and over the years prior to Frome Town United had a huge hand in developing Frome Town United’s current U10 Hawks, U11 Falcons, U12 Falcons, U14 Harriers, and U16 Eagles.
“Nigel was a well-known figure in youth football, years of voluntary service to Frome Collegians and subsequently being a key figure in forming Frome Town United – his passion for giving children an opportunity to play the game was immeasurable and is very much missed by all with Frome Town United and Frome Collegians.
“Renaming of the Frome Town United Shield to the Nigel Daymond Shield will allow his name to continue forever. We will always look to remember and honour Nigel at FTUFC for the legacy he created.”
