Learn how to mend your clothes with help from talented volunteer stitchers and darners from Everyone Needs Pockets.
The volunteers will support you with clothing repairs; you’ll learn on the job and gain valuable skills.
The Everyone Needs Pockets Network is a growing group of over 150 stitchers, makers, designers and crafters in Frome, brought together with the support of Edventure Frome’s Future Shed and the National Lottery-funded Green & Healthy Frome partnership programme.
“Got holes in your jumper? A broken fastener on your favourite piece of clothing? Items lying in your cupboard waiting to be mended? Then these sessions are for you,” said Sue Palmer, Future Shed lead.
The next ‘How to Mend Your Clothes’ sessions are due to run on Saturday 31st May, from 11am to 1pm upstairs at the Cheese and Grain, and then on Saturday 14th June, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at Rook Lane Chapel, as part of the Green Hacks Day led by Green & Healthy Frome.
Everyone Needs Pockets generally runs a How to Mend Your Clothes session on the last Saturday of the month, with a summer break.
Sue added, “You might have seen the textile reuse network out and about in town, in the Westway with the ‘Stitch It Don’t Ditch It’ public mending. The Everyone Needs Pockets network wants the future of fashion to be fun—and to undo the damage to the planet caused by fast fashion.
“If you’re interested in clothing and textile sustainability, the network usually meets on the second Friday of the month at the Edventure Hub and runs lots of inspiring activities, including talks and upcycling workshops.
“On Friday 13th June, we’re at Frome Town Hall hosting talks by Chloe Haywood from Rewardrobe and Gemma Metheringham from Elephant in My Wardrobe, along with a textile and haberdashery swap.”
