The English summer hit as Frome were set in a good position against Glastonbury before a downpour finished the contest.
Having lost the toss, Frome were asked to bat due to the weather favouring the team bowling first and Glastonbury got their breakthrough in the final over of the powerplay, Crocker going L.B.W to Williams for 6 with the score at 38. Mark Dredge joined Paul Sanger and they continued to play positive before Dredge was unluckily caught behind for 16.
This brought Gullock to the crease to join the in-form Sanger and this was to be the crucial partnership in the Frome innings. Both played smart cricket and constantly put the away side under pressure with their running between the wickets. The partnership of 99 was eventually broken when Sanger was bowled by Boot for 75, moving him to the leading run scorer in the division.
Joe Smart came in to partner Gullock and this was the moment the home side got real momentum. He raced to 42 including hitting 4 sixes in a partnership of 62 and helped Frome get to a very competitive 238-5 off their 43 overs after a rain delay. Ryan Gullock finished 63 not out whilst Dan Williams was the pick of the Glastonbury bowlers (1-24). This was a hugely improved batting performance from the previous outing at Chard, showing what this youthful side has to offer.
In reply Glastonbury got off to the worst possible start. Opener Graham was given L.B.W off Wheeler for 0 and Captain Ellison dragged one on off Neil Dredge leaving the visitors in real trouble at 9 for the loss of 2 wickets. Hotham and Brock got their side to 52 before the rain finally came and stopped any further play. Frome finished the game with 12 points and Glastonbury picking up 8.
Frome travel to top of the league North Petherton next week, looking to build on this positive performance, 1pm start.
