The summer isn’t far away and in rugby terms that means only one thing, the Rugby 7s season!
The club report, “Rugby Union’s short form, Sevens, returns to Frome this June 15th for its eighth instalment, building on last year’s event that saw 52 teams battling it out across 6 pitches (totalling in 144 games) and enjoying the festival atmosphere at what has become the biggest annual sevens event in the region. Once again we will have camping available from Friday to Sunday with the usual bars, Pimm’s tents and hospitality.
“The much-anticipated event will run five different levels of competition; Men’s Super Social, Men’s Social, Women’s Social with highest level of rugby being payed in the Ladies’ Open and Men’s Open; the two Open competitions being part of the National Secure Trading RFU Sevens Series. We also offer a prize fund of £750 for the winners of each the Men’s and Women’s Open.
“On Friday 14th the club will play host to a 15s exhibition game, which will see Rugby Against Cancer take on Aniers RFC, which will be a great night’s entertainment being played on our first team pitch and is completely free to come up and watch from our large balcony, which is also connected to our bar.
“On the day, we have a number of street food vendors, including barbecue, Thai, Mexican, pizza, coffee and ice cream vendors as well as our outside bar, which is located between the pitches at Frome RFC’s own “Captains Cabin”.
“The event is run by volunteers – mainly members and friends of Frome RFC, the tournament is free to come up and watch, we will have music playing throughout the day creating a festival atmosphere which will lead late into the night in our club house.
“This year’s main sponsor of the event is The Old Bath Arms Hotel, Frome, as well as Olorun Sportswear, which is a kit supplier from South Wales.”
