There’s still time to enter the Carnival!
IT’S not too late to get involved with Frome Carnival and organisers are encouraging people to take part in this weekend’s procession, help out as a volunteer, or just come along and enjoy what is set to be another spectacular event.
The carnival committee is still keen to hear from anyone who would like to take part in the day as a performer or volunteer, and can be contacted on details at the end of this article.
As the town counts down the days to one of its annual highlights, the carnival chairman looks forward to another huge community effort on the day.
Chair of Frome Carnival, June Barnes says, “I hope everyone is looking forward to carnival day, when young and old can get together to enjoy this event.
“The purpose of the carnival is not only for everyone to enjoy themselves but to raise money to help others who are less fortunate than ourselves. This is done by our own registered charity which is used entirely for our own community, so I hope you will give generously to enable us to continue to help others.
“As usual I must say a big thank you to all those who donate to this event and to everyone who sponsors it.
“We need more help, particularly from fit and able men. If you love carnival and want it to continue, please offer to assist us.
“I must of course thank the Rotary for assistance with our collection, a task they undertake every year for which we are extremely grateful. Also to the Lions who escort our royal party around during carnival time when we visit the hospital and nursing homes. Finally, thank you to our small but very willing, hard-working committee members without whom this event would not take place. Enjoy yourselves and please give generously!”
The committee needs people to help with selling programmes, collecting money, stewarding and road closure marshals. Spectators watched in anticipation as the ducks were tipped into the river, before the winning duck from Audrey Stacey raced away to win first prize.
The carnival committee thanked the royalty members and members of the Frome Canoe Club for their help.
Carnival Best Dressed Shop Window competition
There’s still time to enter the Carnival Best Dressed Shop Window Competition!
The remit is simply the best decorated window preferably, but not necessarily, with a Carnival theme. Judging of the competition will take place a few days after the carnival.
