The Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show returned on Saturday 13th September, bringing thousands of visitors together for a day of celebrating the very best of food, farming, and, of course, cheese.
The day began with sunny weather, and the showground buzzed with energy from start to finish.
Despite rain in the latter part of the afternoon, visitors, traders and competitors remained in high spirits, showing their full support for the show.
At the heart of the day was the Global Cheese Awards, which once again showcased the finest cheesemaking from around the world. This year’s British and Irish Supreme Champion title was awarded to First Milk Cheese Company, Haverfordwest, for their Coloured Vintage Cheddar.
The Reserve Champion went to Lynher Dairies with their celebrated Cornish Kern, who also won the coveted title of Global Champion. The Reserve Global Champion was awarded to Velder from the Netherlands for their Saantje Aged.
The Village Green arena proved a huge hit, with moto stunts International keeping audiences on the edge of their seats with high-speed motorcycle tricks, daring quad stunts, and gravity-defying leaps.
Alongside the stunt action, visitors enjoyed displays from ferrets, mounted games, the much-loved come-bye sheep and duck herding, and the majestic heavy horses.
In the Livestock Village, visitors got up close with cattle, sheep, dairy goats and pygmy goats. The ever-popular sheep show once again combined education with humour, featuring dancing sheep and live shearing demonstrations. Although the grand parade of livestock was paused due to rain, spirits remained high, and exhibitors were able to showcase their animals throughout the day.
The Main Ring kept crowds entertained throughout, with near-perfect ground conditions thanks to recent rainfall. While many other shows this season have had to cancel jumping classes due to hard summer ground, Frome hosted a full programme of equestrian competition.
The gate jumping competition was a real highlight, building to a thrilling finale as two riders tied clear at the fifth and final round. Opting for a voluntary jump-off at 1.65m, both went clear once more before thrilling the crowd with a single soaring jump at 1.75m. Organisers said the atmosphere was electric as the crowd erupted with cheers.
Families flocked to the Little Showgoers’ Play Zone, which proved a triumph once again. With completely free activities including pottery painting, sand art, face painting and mini Land Rover driving, the area was alive with colour, creativity and laughter throughout the day.
The Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show will return on Saturday 12th September 2026.
