After their promotion last season, Diamonds went into this year just hoping to finish mid table, and stay in Division 2, but they far outdid that expectation!
Around the middle of the year, they thought top 4 might be a possibility, but with just a few matches to play, they were starting to think that they could finish as runner-up. This would still end in promotion, but with 1 match still left to play, and their closest rival, Chippenham losing their match, it meant that Diamonds had finished top. Promotion to Division 1 was secured.
With Diamonds going into their last match against Devizes Falcons and the league already under their belt, they could relax and enjoy the game. Not wanting to get complacent however, Captains Helen Maunder and Sheri Pleasants set the team a target of achieving a goal difference of 29, meaning that overall for the season, it would total 200. This was no easy target. On their last encounter with Falcons they beat them by just 19, but Helen and Sheri were confident they could do it.
With an interception by Tracy Carter in the last 30 seconds, they were able to the get the ball to Georgia Cox who shot from the outer edge of the circle to secure a 48-18 win. In true Diamonds fashion, doing even better than required and winning by 30.
Player of the Match – Georgia Cox.
Players’ Player – Georgina Guy and Elise Fowler.
