
LOCAL actors have won prestigious awards from the Somerset Fellowship of Drama.
Frome Drama Club scooped two acting trophies with Merlin Theatre Productions also picking up a trophy in the Phoebe Rees Awards – an annual competition to pick the best amateur productions and performances in the county.
The awards were made at a special dinner in Taunton on Friday 11th October.
Frome Drama Club’s Anabella Fairgrieve won the award for Best Female under 21 for her performance of Eliza, and winning Best Featured Actor was Laurie Parnell for his portrayal of Alfred Doolittle.
Richard Pugh as 2Lt Trotter won Best Supporting Actor in Merlin Theatre Production of Journey’s End.
Frome Drama Club reports, “The Phoebe Rees is a year-round full-length play competition run by the Somerset Fellowship of Drama (SFD) and open to any group affiliated to the SFD. Competition is usually pretty fierce, and it is a huge honour and recognition of achievement to be nominated for an award, let alone win it.”
The club had only one entry into the competition this year, their production of Pygmalion last November, directed by Simon Blacksell. As well as the awards for Anabella and Laurie, the club were also nominated for Best Set Design – Bill Jacques; Best Male – David Holt (Higgins); Best Female Cameo – Suzy Howlett (Mrs Eynsford-Hill) and Best Male Under 21 – Django Lewis-Clark (Freddy Eynsford-Hill).
