THE Frome Festival has made a triumphant return, with record ticket sales and sell-out crowds since opening last week; and with the last day of the festival on Sunday 10th July, there is still plenty more to see and do around the town.
The festival team say they are delighted by the response from festival-goers, and have praised audiences who turned up in their droves to support the opening weekend, despite the ‘unkind’ weather!
The festival team report, “On launch night (Friday 1st July), Jo Whiley’s 90s Anthems sold out in record time, and smaller venues such as Lo Rapitenc and the Sun Inn were packed out, creating a real buzz around town.
“On Saturday (2nd July) the Feast of the Gods in Victoria Park entertained families with theatre, canapes and prosecco, and the Food Feast saw brilliant performances by the Street Bandits, Big Dog, SOS and Jump66, as well as lots of tasty food.
“Later on, the legendary audio-visual club night Sensonic at the Silk Mill was at full capacity, with the audience enjoying live performances by Sylvia Peace, Kayla Painter, and Gnostic Rebellion, with DJs and VJs entertaining the crowds till 2 in the morning.
“Festival headliners, David Olusoga and Roger McGough, also entertained packed audiences at the Cheese and Grain and the Merlin. And tickets have sold fast for the comedy night and two out of three performances of Lockdown Blues at the Silk Mill.”
Outgoing creative director for the festival, Martin Dimery adds, “It’s so gratifying to see the Frome Festival back in full swing after the pandemic. Big thanks to all those who have supported us this year.”
About what’s left to come for the festival, organisers said, “There is plenty more to see! The weather forecast for the final Festival weekend is looking good, so perfect for having a look around Frome’s Hidden Gardens. Printed booklets can be bought through the box office and various outlets in Frome or as a payable download from the festival website for £5, to cover Friday 8th to Sunday 10th.
“It looks like it is going to be balmy weather for sitting outside and for enjoying the outdoor Ecos stage at the Merlin, for the festival spectacular ‘The Haunting of Richard III’, written and directed by festival director, Martin Dimery. Bring along a picnic and be prepared to enter another world, with performances on Thursday 7th, Friday 8th and Saturday 9th.
“There are more free events coming up in Victoria Park too, including The Wagon of Dreams children’s theatre on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th, and on Saturday 9th Chalgugh Chengi, live music and dance.
“Other exiting events are Renaissance, John’s Law’s stunning music and visual project at St John’s on Friday 8th, and Radio Banska, who will be performing world jazz on the Outdoor Ecos stage as a Festival finale on Sunday 10th.
“Don’t forget to check out the fabulous exhibitions, including, PhotoFrome, Celebrated Women of Frome, the Noughty One, and the Open Art Trail.”
