November 2018 sees the culmination of the Frome Service Associations’ Commemoration of the Great War.
The Royal British Legion, the Royal Air Force Association and the Royal Naval Association have created a Garden of Remembrance in the foyer of the Memorial Theatre with a lawn planted with a cross for each of the 224 men of Frome who are listed on the Town War Memorial.
Each weekday throughout November at 11am there will be reading of the names of around 10 names and there will be an album on display showing the graves of each of these men. There is the opportunity for anyone to plant a cross remembering someone of their own and for relatives to read out a particular name if desired. The names will be read in chronological order of date fallen to recall that the Great War lasted for 51months and many died of related wounds and injuries for several years afterwards – indeed its legacy lasts to this day.
The first reading is on 1st November at 11am in the Memorial Theatre and continues on weekdays at the same time until 30th. Further details are available from Dr. James Clipson – jamesclipson @blueyonder.co.uk
