With July’s Frome Half Marathon, 10k and 5k approaching fast, the organisers of this fantastic community event are looking for volunteers to help the day run smoothly for runners and spectators alike.
The event needs volunteers to help make the event run smoothly, including marshalls and water station personnel.
If you’re not planning to run any of the races on the day, or if you have family or friends who could help out on the day of the races, please contact
marshalls@fromehalfmarathon.co.uk
“Marshalling is a great way to feel part of the event; you’ll be showing the runners which route to follow and making sure that nothing obstructs them, such as people and traffic,” said Dave Perrett. “You don’t need any experience, but you will be asked to attend a briefing a week or so before the event.
“There is free tea and cake for marshalls, and for those further out of Frome, there will be a free packed lunch, kindly supplied by The Tuck Shop in Frome.
“If you are a family member or partner of a runner and are planning to watch, why not help at the same time? If you do, the runner you support can get a 25% discount off the entry fee for 2017.”
Meanwhile, the organising team has been busy securing entertainment for the day.
“There is nothing more uplifting for a runner than live music spurring them on as the crowds cheer them by, and this year the event is very fortunate to have two local bands playing along the course, the Frome Street Bandits and Cley Hill Stompers,” continued Dave.
“These great bands will both entertain the crowds and motivate runners, so keep an eye – and an ear! – out for them on the day.
“This year’s race this year will be started by inspirational local boxer Ryan Wheeler, so if you haven’t yet entered the half marathon, 10k or 5k, or you are putting it off, don’t delay as places are selling fast and there are only 1,000 places in total.
“There is something for all runners of all ages and abilities on July 17, whether you’re a beginner or more seasoned runner. The event actively encourages beginners and experienced runners alike – all are welcome!”
