FROME went into the game knowing the capabilities of the team that Hearts got promoted with last season, which definitely proved to be a difficult game in the end.
Kestrels started the better of the two teams, with youth and agility proving the difference in the first few minutes of the game which allowed them to open up a lead. But Hearts defence of May (GK) and Jess (GD) then were able to settle into the game, and gain many interceptions and tips to keep Hearts’ confidence up; this allowed them to bring the ball up to the shooters of Kelly (GA) and Ness (GS) to pull back the deficit to level 14-14 at half time.
Hearts knew they needed to slow their play down across the court to avoid the loss of the ball. Each team were going goal for goal throughout the 3rd quarter, with not much apart from 1 goal lead for Kestrels going into the last quarter. Hearts knew they could do this, but some missed opportunity in the attacking end meant Kestrels opened up a 2 goal lead. Hearts were able to defend hard to turnover the ball, which allowed Molly, Emma and Maddie to work well together, to bring the ball from defence to attack to get Hearts back into the game which ended 27-27.
This was definitely a tough game for Hearts who had to work hard across the court throughout the whole game to stay in touch of the shoreline.
