THE first Climates @Christmas music competition was held on Saturday 17th December at the Good Heart restaurant in Palmer Street.
This was a wonderful event with ten entries from local musicians and one who travelled down from Kidderminster especially for the event. The categories, based on the submissions, were solo artists, bands and a professional category.
Organisers say, “The evening was relaxed, supportive with fun and laughter to enable artists to have time to set-up and to perform and the judging was based on the artist’s passion, the message within the lyrics and how it resonated with the audience.
“This diverse, engaging and inspiring music was complemented by local vegetarian food from Lungi Babas and mulled wine to help the evening to flow.
“The award ceremony was supported by Frome FM’s own Magpie Folk Café host Patrick Moss FromeFM | Magpie’s Folk Cafe and the giant Oscars statues kindly provided by the The Dandy Lion in Frome which were fantastic, especially when walking down Catherine Hill with them!”
The award winners are:
Solo artist: Artey Williams from Bridport, with a song titled Living on Borrowed Time
Band: Creeping Line Ahead, a band from Frome with a song titled One Burger Less
Professional: Tim Clayton and the Higher Lovers from Frome with a song titled In Time
The winners were then put into a hat to be drawn for the life changing prize of a sponsored day in the Bert Jansch Professional Recording Studio at the Cheese and Grain in Frome. The winner of a day at the recording studio was Artey Williams.
The event was created and sponsored by James Godman of The Climates who also created and sponsored the Climate Film Festival in Frome in May who said, “The Climates@Christmas is a free music event aimed at bringing current and aspiring musicians together from all genres into a safe supportive space for an end of year celebration, to have fun and knees up.
“All who entered received a bag of plant bulbs to grow new life and the winners had cash prizes of £100, and the lucky overall winner won a free day in the wonderful professional studio at the Cheese and Grain.
“The Climates put on the Climate Film Festival in May and the Climates@Christmas Music Competition in December; these will be yearly free events to help to connect, share, support and inspire change.”
